Huachuca Mountains Weekend Hiking Weather Outlook
April 16-20 2026
Hello Hikers!
Are you planning to get out in the mountains or valleys of Southeast Arizona this weekend? If so, here’s what we’re looking at …
Saturday is going to be downright beautiful, with clear skies, relatively light winds, and seasonally pleasant temperatures. You might need a light jacket or hoodie if you want get out real early in the morning; but I expect you’ll shed it pretty quickly.
Speaking of early mornings, we are currently gaining a couple of extra minutes of light every day. So if you want to get some cool pictures of the sunrise you’re going to have be up and out of bed before 5 am.
Sunday morning will be a bit warmer due a slight increase in cloud cover. Easterly winds will again start off light, but pick up and get relatively gusty by the afternoon. This will be most noticable up on the mountains, and/or in some of the canyons. Shouldn’t be a real impediment to completing a hike; just something to be aware of, and prepared for.
Night Hikes:
With mostly clear skies, and little to no moon illumination on Friday night, it might be a good time to take advantage of one of our dark skies locations here in southeast Arizona to try your hand at astrophotography.
I hope you found this helpful. I already produce a 5-Day weather forecast every morning, so I’m going to try to tailor it to make this hiking outlook a weekly feature here on Just Over That Next Hill.
